Until I Get You by Claire Contreras (ARC Review)

I received an ARC (advance reader's copy) of this book.

Summary:

My reputation at Fairview University preceded me. I was the projected number-one pick in the NHL draft and the fan favorite at the rink. People wanted to be me or be with me.
Except for Lyla James Marichal.
She didn't look at me like I was her next meal. She eyed me with disdain.
Instead of vying for my attention, she ignored me and pushed me away.
She was completely unattainable, and I became obsessed with her.
When I finally got her, it felt like I was on top of the world. I was going to help the team win another championship, going into the draft, and had Lyla by my side.
And then, without warning, she left me.
Vanished.
It took me three bitter, angry, long years to find her, but I did, and now she owes me a lot more than just an explanation.
Three years ago, she ruined my life.
Now, I was going to become her worst nightmare.

My Thoughts:
Claire Contreras has been a go-to author for me ever since I read the Darkness series back in 2018. To say I'm excited to read anything she releases would be an understatement. I like that all of her books have more layers than just romance. She always brings in some sort of darkness, mystery, or suspense and it really makes her stand out. Claire, you had me at dark sports romance. I can say without hesitation that this is not only the best hockey romance l've ever read, but also the best sports romance. It's truly unlike any other. First of all, Lyla & Lachlan! How perfect does that sound together? As much as I'd like to describe many parts of this book in detail, I want to keep this a spoiler free review.

Lachlan, the guy who cannot be held down by anyone, falls hard for Lyla. She was different than all of the other girls. Lyla has a past and tries to keep Lachlan at a distance to protect him but Lach will do anything to have Lyla at his side. I love a good time jump but this one had me picking my jaw up off of the floor. The story is strong, and I absolutely adored these characters! The mystery aspect was brought in early, but you don't take a deep dive into it until much later, allowing the suspense to continue to grow while gathering all of the pieces. As for the spicy scenes, phew... there's a lot! If you're someone who loves a ton of steamy, hot scenes then this one's for you! I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance/romantic suspense/sports romance. After reading my arc I heard a sample of the audiobook and knew I had to have it. The narrators are phenomenal!

I didn't read the trigger warnings, but you may want to.
